JDF 1.6

One job ticket. Every press vendor.

BuildYourPrint writes JDF 1.6 job tickets: the open CIP4 standard your prepress and press software already read. What is in the ticket, which presses read it, and the templates we are building. JDF 1.6 is part of the Enterprise tier.

01 Presses & prepress JDF 1.6

JDF 1.6: every press vendor.

Every order can produce a JDF 1.6 job ticket, the CIP4 standard, with the job, the customer, the quantities and versions, the paper, the press and its print process, the imposition and folding, the binding and the finishing devices. The ticket is vendor-neutral: Heidelberg Prinect, Komori, Koenig & Bauer, manroland, RMGT, HP Indigo, Konica Minolta, Canon, Ricoh, Xerox, Fujifilm and others read the same standard.

Each press and finishing machine in your admin carries its JDF identity, device id, name, manufacturer, model, print process, so the ticket names your machines the way your front end knows them.

  • Device identity per press and finishing machine

02 Inside the ticket

What the ticket carries.

One JDF 1.6 file per order, written the moment the order is confirmed.

Job & customerJob id, customer, delivery date, quantities per version.
PaperStock, grammage, sheet size, the sheet the price was calculated on.
Press & print processThe press from your admin with its JDF device id, manufacturer, model and print process.
Imposition & foldingThe layout per sheet, n-up, folding scheme and katernen as the calculation chose them.
Binding & finishingEvery finishing operation with its device identity.
VersionsEvery version with its position on the sheet and its sheet count.
03 1.4 vs 1.6 What you gain

JDF 1.4 as most systems export it. JDF 1.6 as we write it.

The few web-to-print systems that write JDF at all mostly still export version 1.4. This is what the step to 1.6, and to a ticket written from the calculation, changes for your prepress.

04 Press templates In the making

In the making: a template per press.

The standard is one; the way each front end likes its ticket is not. We are building templates for most of the presses on the market, so the ticket arrives exactly the way Prinect, your HP front end or your Konica Minolta controller expects it.
